SONY DSCThe FIU School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ) is training a new type of journalist (e.g., accountability journalism based on original reporting to make the public aware of what powerful entities in society are doing and helps hold them accountable to the public) and has been working to educate the public on realities of sea level rise in South Florida. Professors in SCJ are conducting community-engaged journalism about sea level rise related threats to our community and potential opportunities. SCJ produced a nationally acclaimed documentary on entitled: “South Florida’s Rising Seas”. Faculty and students now provide an “Eyes on the Rise” website with tools to help communicate sea level rise information to the public.
