The FIU Sea Level Solutions Center promotes the highest level of interdisciplinary research within FIU and with its many research partners. By integrating science, engineering, architecture, communications, economics, finance, accounting, social sciences, politics, law, journalism, tourism and public health, the innovative efforts to respond to sea level rise challenges can be thoroughly addressed. In addition, the Center uses a trans-disciplinary approach to work directly with decision-makers and local communities to develop adaptation plans and decision frameworks for solving sea level problems.
FIU faculty, students, and colleagues from other research universities and elsewhere have been conducting such research for some time and specifically have examined and collected very significant information on the subject of sea level rise and its MDC and South Florida implications. Research at FIU focuses on addressing scientific challenges, as well as the social and economic needs of Florida and the nation.
FIU is uniquely poised to:
- Advance sea level rise vulnerability and resiliency science as key component to continued prosperity and sustainable development
- Collaborate with regional government entities, local partners, and fellow institutions of research and higher education
- Work with policy makers and the private sector to make practical adjustments to help transition to world with higher seas
- Provide credible information on the impacts of a changing climate to residents and businesses and engage through outreach
