USAID training farmersOn a local to global scale, FIU researchers are informing their colleagues and others on the science of sea level rise. One of many examples is FIU’s longstanding history of research partnerships in Central America and the Caribbean, including extensive coastal ecosystem and human dynamics research to understand system transformation under changing climate and economic drivers.  Existing partnerships such as this can be leveraged to ensure that adaptation plans developed locally are applied globally in ways that appreciate geographic, ecological and cultural differences in exposure, vulnerability and resilience features. Further, FIU leadership, departmental personnel and researchers have significant international, national, regional and local relationships that can be leveraged to pursue adaption research, plans, and implementations in MDC, South Florida and elsewhere.
